It was perfect weather for a helicopter landing at St. Bruno Catholic School on Thursday, February 23rd, 2017. The school was ready to welcome the police officers, firemen and women, paramedics, and all those who have served in the armed forces, past and present. This event, which was planned weeks in advanced, happen to be during the week that Whittier lost one of its own. Officer Keith Boyer was tragically murdered in the line of duty this week serving his city. Although spirits were in mourning for the officer who lost his life, the overall atmosphere was that of appreciation, excitement, and love. The students were lead in prayer by Pastor of the church, Father Dave Heney, followed by a heart warming speech by Student Council President, Sheridan A. The students were then lead in a prayerful song by Music Director, Rosemary Circo. The song entitled "On Veteran's Day", was a heartfelt message, outlining the appreciation the students have for the service men and women of our country. Thoughts and prayers also went out to Officer Patrick Hazel who was injured in the same line of duty with Officer Boyer, Patrick Hazel is expected to make a full recovery.
The students were sitting in the words WE LOVE YOU, as highway patrol officer Ammons, flew over the school and landed in the school field. Following the ceremony, the students got to talk to the men and women in uniform, and also explore the patrol vehicles that were brought to the school. Overall, the message was clear. Love, honor, and respect those who risk their lives every day for the freedoms we have in this great country.
