At Saint Bruno School, 5th grade students strive to foster the school's Student Learning Expectations (SLE's) while studying a variety of subjects, as well as, the arts and physical education. Students use new technology such as Chrome books, videos, computers, and the ENO interactive board to enhance their rigorous academic lessons. Programs like Mathletics for Math and MobyMax for reading comprehension and English grammar, as well as, Accelerated Reader and Typing club give the 5th grade students the means to utilize their individual electronic device to supplement lessons taught in class or lessons learned at their own rate.
Special projects like the Heritage Report,and in depth analysis of van Gogh's painting Starry Night are just a few of the writing assignments which focus on the new Common core Standards. Math and science , as well as, art, music, and physical education create an academic program suited to educate the 5th grade student.
The student of the Catholic faith, especially the sacrament, is the core of the religious education in the 5th grade. Students learn the tenants of their faith and the importance of social justice as well.the students look forward to the class annual field trip to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles.
By the end of the school year, SBS 5th grade students are ready and prepared to take on the challenges of junior high at Saint Bruno School.
